My intense discussion about the Hunger Games
SPOILERS SPOILERS FOR ALL THREE BOOKS
Me: You know what I love
Adam: What?
Me: The Hunger Games
Adam: ME TOO
Me: have you read it?
Adam: all three
Me: ugh I just ship peeta and katniss so hard.
Adam: Well, I mean she should have killed him.
Me: uh no. Why?
Adam: She should have just shot him in the eye when the game makers said that the grouping of the districts or whatever wasn't a thing anymore. Oh and killing Prim in Mockingjay was absolutely pointless.
Me: No, it was a good twist.
Adam: Nah, the author just ran out of ideas so she just started killing people off. That's the only reason they killed Finnick too.
Me: No no! NO. Finnick dying was good. It was sad, so sad, but it was good because like now annie was broken. and then when you find out she was having a kid like UGH . It was a good heartbreaking story.
Adam: No. They should have saved Finnick, had an EPIC Peeta death in the raid on the Capitol, shipped Katnick for like 30 pages but then have her marry Gale in the end.
Me: NO no nO NO No death of peeta. I would have been sobbing uncontrollably. No Gale sucks.
Adam: Hey Taylor, lets never write a book together, kay?

Adam: Oh and did I mention that in the first movie Gale should have volunteered for Peeta? There's so many things they could've done better with Peeta..

Adam: Nah, I like Gale! Oh and they shoulda had Peeta's name get drawn in the Quarter Quell reaping and then have Abernathy volunteer.
Me: I don't agree with you ( i was still a bit busy.)
Adam: I know you don'. That's what makes this conversation interesting.
Me: ugh I just like think that Prim dying was good. Like the whole point of the story was that Katniss joined the hunger games because she didn't want prim to go through that and to get killed. So when prim died it was a good twist because the thing katniss DID NOT want to happen, did.
Adam: Yeah but they did it retardedly. Should've had her die by the hands of either Peeta or one of Snow's men.
Me: No, it was a good way to get Gale out of the way so she could marry Peeta.
Adam: Nah. Peeta's such a tool. There's no way he should have stayed alive throughout all three books.
Me: He is not a tool. He's perfect. (this is my love showing.)
Adam: Oh man, I can't believe you said that.. I think your perception is off.
Me: But he is perfect. He would do anything- anything- for Katniss. Gale wouldn't! When Katniss wanted to run away from district 12, Gale asked questions. Peeta was willing to do it, no questions asked. I'm not saying Gale didn't love her, he did. But the was was more important to him- fighting was more important than her. Not with Peeta. Peeta loved her. She meant everything to Peeta. Peeta and Katniss had nothing left. They needed each other. Gale didn't need Katniss.
Adam: That's exactly why she should have been with Gale! Because Peeta's a damn drone with nothing to offer other than being whipped! Gale challenges her to be better and more charismatic . Peeta just makes her co-dependent and lazy.
Me: She needed someone to be co-depenedent on because she was so used to being independent and distant from everyone to protect herself and peeta provided a different path while gale provided independence, which she didn't need. She needed to realize that people can be trusted and that she can rely on people. Gale didn't give her that, Peeta did.
Adam: That's what Haymitch is for! Haymitch was an open ear, and as drunk as he was he was one of the most moral characters in the whole trilogy. She didn't need Peeta .
Me: She did need him! She didn't trust Haymitch. Haymitch was considered a drunk to her. Peeta was the reason Haymitch even tried, he got through to Haymitch. Haymitch was putting his money on Peeta. Without Peeta, Haymitch wasn't even going to help Katniss, because of her attitude.
Adam: Well then why is it that all the silver parachutes went to Katniss? Yeah , Peeta's good at getting people on her side but he would continue to do that even is she did stay on the Kale ship. He was her bitch, basically. Katniss needed someone even tougher than her, not someone she can toss around like a ragdoll. Emotionally and physically.
Me: From the beginning peeta was no ones rag doll. When he threw her the bread he stood up for what he thought was right. And continued to. But what it was that he stood up for the feelings he didn't know he had for her. Everything he did in the book was because he loved her. There is no one more honorable than someone that is willing to give there life up for someone else. And Katniss got the parachutes because she had talent, peeta didn't. All peeta had to offer was the story. His love. The "star crossed lovers" . That doesn't make him a pussy. He's very smart.
Adam: Peeta's talents are what make him a good boyfriend, but as a husband he'd get extremely dull extremely fast. Once he had married he was all out of juice. It's like the people on Gilligan's island getting saved. Nothing interesting could ever happen again! Once peeta had Katniss he would become content, so content to the point where he would never grow as a person. and Katniss would be holding his through it because (as hard as it is to tell) she is the kind of person who likes the easy way out. That's why her first reaction was to get ready to kill Peeta in the 74th Hunger Games. The berries were a plan B. Once she found the easy way out in life by being married to a man who held no tricks left up his sleeve, she'd never have anything to live up to other than Peeta's desire to get her knocked up. Gale would have pushed and pushed throughout their whole lives for Katniss to become stronger and smarter. Gale loves her just as much he just shows it differently. I think Gale's love would be more beneficial for Katniss as a person because he gives her reality. Not the fairy tale love bird crap that Peeta gives her. Katniss and Peeta staying together was why the trilogy could only have three books. Her staying with Gale could've made for another dozen.
Me: Peeta has to fight the memories they programmed into his mind. So theexcitement/terror they had was there every day for the rest of their lives. He can knock Katniss up and still love her. Gale would never be Happy. Sometimes people want a different life, a life that's better for them. Maybe gale's path was more exciting but she wanted peace. She wanted peace in her life. She chose the man that was going to give her that. SHe couldn't get over the fact that something Gale created was the cause of Prims death
and that was the end cause he left.
I guess that means I win.
